How to Order Your Custom Engraved Piece 🪵🤎

Ordering a custom engraved piece from Burnt Sugar Co is pretty simple — you bring us the idea, and we do the burning.
01 — Choose Your Piece
Browse our custom engraved pieces and choose the board, coaster, sign or other timber piece you’d like.
Select your options and add the item to your cart.

02 — Send Us Your Idea
Depending on the product, you’ll be able to provide your:
📸 Photo
🐴 Pet or horse photo
🐶 Dog photo
✍️ Handwriting
🏡 Family or home details
💍 Wedding details
🖤 Memorial artwork
✨ Logo or business artwork
📝 Names, dates or special wording
The clearer and higher-quality your image is, the better starting point we have.
But don’t panic if your photo isn’t perfect!
Sometimes we can crop, edit, remove backgrounds, combine elements or turn an ordinary photo into something completely different.
If you’re unsure whether your photo will work, send it through and ask us.
03 — We Work Our Magic
Once we’ve received your information, we’ll prepare your artwork for engraving.
Some images are quick and straightforward. Others require a little more editing, cleaning up or creative work to make them suitable for engraving.
For example, we may be able to turn a partial photo into a complete composition, combine multiple images or add/remove elements.
More involved image editing may incur an additional design fee. If this applies to your order, we’ll let you know before proceeding.
04 — Check Your Mock-Up
Where a mock-up is applicable, we’ll send your design through for you to check before engraving begins.
This is your chance to make sure:
✔️ Names are spelled correctly
✔️ Dates are correct
✔️ Wording is right
✔️ The layout looks good
✔️ Personalised details are correct
Take your time and give it a good proofread!
A little note about the mock-up 🌿
The digital mock-up is a guide to the design, layout and placement.
Because we’re engraving onto natural timber, the finished piece won’t necessarily look 100% identical to the digital mock-up. Every piece of wood has its own grain, colour, knots and natural markings, which can affect how the engraving appears.
Your approved names, words, dates and personalised details will be engraved according to the confirmed design.
05 — Give Us The Green Light 💚
Once you’re happy with your design, simply approve the mock-up.
Your approval means you’re giving us the go-ahead to engrave.
Once engraving has commenced, custom pieces cannot be cancelled, returned or exchanged due to a change of mind or an error in the approved design.
So this is your final chance to check those spelling mistakes! 👀
06 — We Burn It
Now the fun part.
Your design is engraved onto your piece of timber using our laser, before your piece is checked, finished and carefully packed.
Every piece is handmade, so tiny differences and natural timber characteristics are part of what makes your piece yours.
07 — We Send It Your Way 📦
Once your piece is ready, we’ll package it up and send it on its way.
Then all that’s left is to wait for that “your order has shipped” notification. 🤎
